Love Punks

Australia Day is around the corner and it means many different things to many different people.

Rather than spout all that flag waving stuff and fake tattoos for your face, I thought I would share with you the awesome Yijala Yala Project and the LOVE PUNKS! I have lifted the following perfectly explained description straight from the website for a little understanding:
“The Yijala Yala Project is a long-term, inter-generational cultural arts project based in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The project seeks to highlight cultural heritage as living, continually evolving and in the here and now, rather than of the past, and works with community members to create content and develop skills that assist in communicating their cultural heritage to a wide audience.”

Who then, are the LOVE PUNKS? Well, in 2011 the children of Roebourne got together to make a zombie film ‘ Sweet Love Punks vs Zombies’. (Excuse me check the awesome anchor knees on the pants above!) It was set to music with a rainbow of colourful face paint and collectively their characters became the LOVE PUNKS (great name, great name). Given further access to the support and technology needed, these energetic and imaginative children have since created a junk percussion music video, an online game and interactive comic called NEOMAD which is available on iTunes.

So, so cool!!!!

Awesome people, projects and opportunities like The Yijala Yala Project are why I celebrate Australia Day…. oh and of course the fireworks!!!!

Check out the website and the blog to keep up with what else is happening with creative folks in the Pilbara.
